This was a personal project that I spent the majority of my Sophomore summer working on. The editing is also an extension of how I made ANIM190’s 2D animation. Instead of animating each movement frame-by-frame, I experimented with multiple Adobe programs to edit the subjects as if I was editing normal tweens on video.
Storyboard
It started out with a rough storyboard/animation to pin the right movement and timing down, as experimenting with animation later on would be more unnecessary work. Done in Adobe Animate. Photoshop could have been used, but in my experience, Animate is a lot faster CPU-wise for quick work and roughing ideas out compared to Photoshop, which is built more for detail and inputs are much slower, with non-vector-based brushes possibly hindering the experimentation process.
Photoshop
Using the storyboard I started to animate in detail via Photoshop.
After Effects
Using splining and image editing tools provided by the software, I started to put the transparent animations together. At the end of this process, manipulating light contrast was done by adding layer effects with shape gradients.
Premiere
After Effects was a new program for me at the time, and so I took better comfort in finishing up the project’s audio and the video itself by using Premiere.
Mongoose was a play script-turned-storyboard meant to play with lighting in shots and how it can affect the tone of a scene, as well as keeping the light sources consistent. The story involves a child that thinks he’s a secret agent, and a tired businessman who gets caught up in his scheme.
